Children's Discovery Centre opened on May 23, 2015, originally as a 4-month pilot project. Due to delays in demolition plans for this building, we were able to stay open until now. However, we are finally closing on July 31st.
The purpose of our pilot project was to demonstrate that young families want and need an educational, fun and dynamic place specifically designed for our youngest kids to play, explore, learn and grow. Thanks to the support of nearly 15,000 families who visited Children's Discovery Centre over the past year, we heard loud and clear that Toronto should have a permanent children's museum, like the ones already found in over 200 cities in North America.
Last month in June, we were given an opportunity to move this fall into a closed school at Queen & Ossington. We launched our 20,000 Bricks Fundraising Campaign to enable us to move into this new home, but unfortunately, there was just not enough time for our fundraising efforts to take advantage of this particular opportunity.
The good news though is that this was just one of several other potential location options for a permanent home in the downtown area. So our 20,000 Bricks Fundraising Campaign is still underway!
For those of you who have already purchased a brick, thank you for your support, and your brick purchase is helping to provide the necessary resources for our team to continue exploring other location options.
For those of you who would like to help make Children's Discovery Centre a permanent part of our city, the campaign is simple: we are selling 20,000 bricks for $25 each. Your name will appear on your brick in our future permanent home, and provide the resources necessary for our team to continue exploring other location options.
Bricks can be purchased online through our website here.
All funds raised in the 20,000 Bricks Campaign will be used to explore location options, enable our move in to a new home and to support future operations, including the expansion of Children's Discovery Centre to include our 7 to 12 year old kids!
This is our golden opportunity to continue the 'magic' created at Children's Discovery Centre, and to help build a better Toronto for our kids.
So we hope you will buy a brick today, and please ask your friends, family and colleagues to buy their bricks as well and spread the word on social media.
On behalf of our team, thank you for your consideration and support. Together, I know we can make it happen!

Why do we need a children's museum?
Toronto is one of the fastest growing cities in North America, and a growing urban 'baby-boom' is also changing how and where a new generation of young urban families wants to live. Since 2006, there's been a 55% increase in the number of young families with babies living in downtown Toronto, and over the next 10 years, this number is expected to triple; resulting in growing demand for family-friendly services, amenities and lifestyle experiences.
Yet currently, most children's activities and programming available in Toronto, at places like the Royal Ontario Museum, Science Centre or Art Gallery of Ontario, are really more suitable for 'older' kids, leaving many parents frustrated and constantly searching for meaningful and educational activities for their young kids.
Children's Discovery Centre is Toronto's first and only children's museum designed by early childhood development experts specifically for young kids aged 6 & under.
