thank you toronto for making our pilot project a success!
On July 31, 2016, our Children's Discovery Centre grassroots pilot project came to a close after 14 months of laughter, smiles and joyful play! We are now exploring several opportunities in the downtown area to re-open Children's Discovery Centre in a permanent location, so stay tuned for exciting updates!
And for those of you who supported our 20,000 Bricks Fundraising Campaign, your donations are still being held towards a new home and your name(s) will still appear on special bricks in our new home in recognition of your early support!
On May 23rd, 2015, we opened the Children's Discovery Centre - Toronto's only children's museum designed and staffed by a team of early childhood development professionals for kids aged 0 to 6 years to play, create, get messy, explore and use their imaginations.
During the 14 months of operation of our "pilot project", we provided unforgettable educational experiences for over 20,000 parents and children in our 10 Discovery Zones, all housed under one roof in our 20,000 sq.ft. building in downtown Toronto at 45 Strachan Avenue.
Our philosophy was simple: create a digital and screen-free space where our young kids can do what they naturally do - i.e. learn through play... and play they did!
Riding tricycles & scooters in our Mini City; building spaceships in Imagination Station; canoeing and camping in our urban Campground; painting masterpieces in Art Hive; dressing up in Make Believe; singing and drumming in Boom Room; grocery shopping and 'cooking' a gourmet meal in Eat Street; playing veterinarian and helping animals in Pet Vet; and snuggling up in our reading forts with a favourite book in Maya's Storyland... these are just some of the fun memories that our young visitors enjoyed .
Our team misses the sounds of pure joy and laughter that became the daily soundtrack of Children's Discovery Centre, but we'll be back in a new permanent home in the coming years.
So stay tuned and keep in touch!
